Rhonni and Chris will be there to read their new book Ants in My Plants and do some fun activities like learning to draw an ant and marching to the Ant Chant. Afterwards, there will be a chance to purchase the book ($15.00 includes sales tax).

No details are available yet, but I plan a book launch sometime around the end of July this summer.  The title is Ants in My Plants and it is a children's picture book.  My illustrator is Chris Johnson and he has created individual and whimsical ants to grace the story's pages. The story is one I wrote while in grad school at the University of Idaho.  I was taking a class in reading instruction and Dr. Lew Smith challenged us to write, illustrate and publish a book with patterned language.  The original title was The Gardeners and I did the illustrations myself, and put it together with Contac paper-covered cardboard covers, staples and craft tape.  Please understand that this was some years ago, before the internet. This year my sister encouraged me to actually publish the book and so I am nearly through that process.  What a learning curve! There will be more details to come about having ants in my plants.  Here's one illustration from the book:

I'll be singing for women who have been victims of domestic violence.  They have graciously allowed me to join them at one of their support groups.

Free, but you must RSVP to save your spot.  Event is currently fully booked, but there is a waiting list!  Call Jenny at 806-367-9088 for more information. After all the art activities, etc., Rhonni will entertain with songs about this area and the children will be able to participate with singing, instruments, dance and drama.  There may even be some poetry, too.    

Come join Rhonni as she sings songs written just for children (and older kids, too)!  The concert begins at 2:30, but you might want to bring your family earlier and have lunch at Finley's first!  Enjoy songs such as "Gotta Get More Rocks", "Using Up June", "What I Love About Spring", and many others.  Audience participation is encouraged!  There will be some door prizes and other fun stuff!
